High-Capacity Railway Line Messina – Catania, Doubling Works

Description

Executive design of the doubling works of the Messina – Catania high capacity railway line, Lot 2 Taormina – Giampilieri, for an amount of works of 1 billion Euros. The project foresees the realization of a new 28.3 km railway line (mainly developed in tunnels) bypassing the existing one between the stations of Fiumefreddo and Giampilieri.

A crucial aspect of the project concerns the construction sites, 60 construction areas and 8 mobile sites for the excavation of natural tunnels. Energy and water sustainability are key issues of all construction areas, static and mobile, tackled with design solutions such as the optimization of sun exposure – to maximize self-production from photovoltaics – and water cycles between mobile sites and fixed sites, recovering 100% of runoff water.
