Orte-Falconara Doubling: Proger’s Engineering Decisive in Achieving NRRP Targets
The 30 June 2026 deadline met on the Genga-Serra San Quirico section
The upgrade of the Orte-Falconara line, commissioned by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), addresses the need to adapt the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic corridor to growing traffic volumes and to cut journey times. Proger leads the design joint venture responsible for the design of the railway doubling, on a new alignment, of Lot 2 Genga-Serra San Quirico, one of the most complex sections of the entire line due to the mountainous morphology of the territory. The project covers almost 9 km and includes 8 tunnels, 4 viaducts and the new Genga station, serving the Frasassi Caves area, along with the complete reorganisation of the local road network.
Thanks to Proger’s detailed engineering, which supported the Eteria Consortium throughout the execution of the works and in managing the design changes arising on site, the NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) target set for 30 June 2026 has been achieved: around 80% of the new railway roadbed has been built, with the main civil works completed, including 6 tunnels, 3 viaducts and most of the new Genga station, and the two temporary diversion tracks activated, essential for building the remaining part of the line.
