EBRD chooses Proger for higher education project in Egyptian oil sector

Italy exports its know-how in energy efficiency: the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Proger as the lead consultant for an innovative training program aimed at promoting energy efficiency in Egypt’s petroleum sector. The initiative, which was officially launched in Cairo, provides advanced training for staff of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

In addition to providing specialized training on the latest energy-saving practices and technologies, the EBRD-funded program will establish the framework for ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification of selected facilities, marking an important step forward in the modernization of Egypt’s energy sector.

The presentation workshop was attended by Mark Davis, The Managing Director of EBRD SEMED region, Ahmed El Beltagui, Head of the Climate and Energy Sector at the European Union Commission in Cairo, Lorenzo Vingut Harrington, Team Leader for Green and Sustainable Transition, Delegation of the European Union to Egypt, Moataz Atef, Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Minister’s Office, Technical Office and official spokesperson, Alaa El Batal, First Undersecretary for HSE, Process safety, Energy Efficiency and Climate, Mahmoud Maher –  MoPMR – Energy Efficiency and Climate Division.

Proger was represented by Salvatore Carollo and Sauro Pasini, two of Italy’s leading experts in oil & gas and energy sustainability who will serve as key lecturers for the program. They were joined by Özlem Kildir, CEO and Founder of Profinstance, partner of the initiative, bringing over 20 years of expertise in project finance and sustainable development financing.

”This project represents a new chapter in Proger’s development in the region,”‘ said Mauro Della Giovampaola, Director of International Business Operations at Proger. “The contract demonstrates Proger’s constant commitment to promoting sustainable and low-emission solutions in key sectors and further consolidates our role as a multidisciplinary partner in North Africa and the Middle East”.

The training program developed by Proger is being delivered by lecturers specialized in energy efficiency, ISO 50001 certified auditors, and experts on Egypt’s oil scene, including Giuseppe Galassini, a distinguished academic in the field. The course will feature a combination of hands-on training, energy audits, and the development of monitoring tools applied in real-world settings such as refineries, petrochemical plants, and gas processing facilities. The aim is to equip engineers and maintenance teams with the skills needed to identify, evaluate, and implement effective energy-saving solutions, from individual equipment to whole plant integration, facilitating the industry’s transition to a more sustainable and climate-aware model.

“Proger will guide participants in developing project proposals and prioritizing energy-saving investments, ensuring practical and impactful knowledge transfer.” Della Giovampaola concludes, “With the support of the European Community and close cooperation with Egyptian institutions, Proger will deliver a transformative program that can not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also build new capacity in Egypt’s energy sector to meet long-term sustainability goals”.
