Line 2 of Turin’s automatic metro, one of the city’s most eagerly awaited infrastructures, will be realised also thanks to the contribution of the Temporary Group of Designers, led by Proger S.p.A. and comprising RINA Consulting S.p.A., RINA Check srl, BVI srl, SIIP srl and Progeca srl, which will assist the Extraordinary Commissioner in the award procedures, design reviews and subsequent contract management up to the commissioning of the first section of the new line.
The estimated duration of the contract, including optional services, is 2,910 days and covers all the phases of the project development: tendering, preparation of the PFTE (technical-economic feasibility project), executive design and works management.
Proger’s team will be responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time and meets the required legal and quality standards, both in terms of system installations and rolling stock, as well as civil works and non-system installations, including underground stations.
“We are proud to be at the heart of this challenge,” said Marco Lombardi, CEO of Proger, “ready to support the construction of an infrastructure that will be able to transport more than 100,000 passengers per day, with an estimated 10% reduction in private car traffic, and allow the redevelopment of more than 60,000 square metres of abandoned railway land with trees, cycle paths and sports facilities. A key project for sustainable mobility”.
A strategic line
With its ‘Y’ configuration, the entire Line 2 project involves the construction of 32 stations along a total length of 27 km, divided into three main sections, and will allow the city to be traversed along its main north-east/south-west development axis. The infrastructure will help to strengthen connections between the city’s main centres, including the FCA Mirafiori plant, the university centres of Campus Einaudi and Politecnico di Torino, the city centre and the Giovanni Bosco hospital.
The first section of Line 2, for which the PMC was awarded to Proger’s RTP, is divided into two functional lots and runs between the Rebaudengo and Politecnico stations, along a ten-kilometre underground line with automatic convoy circulation. Mr Lombardi concluded: “After the success of such impressive projects as Poste Italiane’s Polis, KAP3, KAP 4 and Riyadh Art in Saudi Arabia, winning this contract confirms our leadership in the field of high-level consultancy for the realisation of major strategic works“.
