BESS: Proger alongside ENEL Green Power for the realisation of three battery energy storage plants

BESS

Enel Green Power has entrusted Proger with “Owner Engineering” services for the construction of three new Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which will be installed to support Terna in the management of the Italian electricity grid, in light of the increase in production plants from renewable sources. Two plants are located in Sardinia (Ottana and Codrongianos) and one in Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Udine).

The project activities involve the supervision of the engineering design of the BESS service infrastructure and supply chain; the direction of construction activities; the management of plant commissioning and all project management and support activities. The assignment follows numerous activities carried out by Proger for Enel Green Power in recent years, including the recent installation of an innovative Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system for the Santa Barbara thermal power plant.

We are proud to be part of Enel Green Power’s national energy storage program,” comments Rocco Marsico, Director of Proger’s Green Energy BU. “Storage systems like the BESS make it possible to overcome the variability and discontinuity of energy production from renewables, one of the main limitations of these technologies, by storing or returning stored energy on demand. They therefore represent a concrete contribution to the energy transition because, in addition to providing greater stability to the electricity grid, they turn renewable plants into more functional and competitive solutions“.
